Academic Advisor

At the beginning of the semester of the new academic year, following the publication of the list of successful candidates, the Department Assembly of the Department of Philology appoints an Academic Advisor for each postgraduate student. The term of the Academic Advisor coincides with the beginning and completion of each student’s postgraduate studies.
The Academic Advisor is responsible for providing information and guidance to postgraduate students, and his/her duties include, among others:
- Informing postgraduate students about the structure of the Study Programme and the objectives of the Master’s Programme.
- Providing guidance, in collaboration with the teaching staff of the Master’s Programme, during the selection of the Master’s Thesis topic.
- Informing postgraduate students about the prospects offered by the Master’s Programme both in terms of research and their professional development.
- Identifying the needs and interests of postgraduate students, and supporting their aptitudes and skills.
- Facilitating the contact of postgraduate students with the university authorities, administrative bodies and services (such as Student Welfare, Career Office, Counselling and Psychological Support Unit, Internship Office, and the Department of International Relations – Erasmus+).
• Informing postgraduate students about the use of the Department’s facilities (e.g. Library, Laboratories, Secretariat).
• Providing guidance on pursuing doctoral studies within the Department, and more broadly in Greece and/or abroad.
• Exploring professional prospects (opportunities in the public or private sector, self-employment, or positions abroad).
• Informing postgraduate students about applying for scholarships and participating in ongoing or upcoming research projects pursued by the Department of Philology.
• Informing postgraduate students about the Department’s academic activities (conferences, workshops, lectures) and outreach initiatives.
It should be noted that the role of Academic Advisors is supportive and advisory. Postgraduate students are expected to inform their Academic Advisor of their decisions. The final responsibility for their choices regarding academic matters rests with the students themselves.
